Move, Learn, Breathe

After having worked only 3 months at a job where I am literally tied to a desk for 10 hours straight (minus three 15 minute breaks and one half-hour break) I not only started going mind-numbingly crazy, I also began to notice new aches and pains developing in my body. Now at 23, I know these pains shouldn't be here yet and I am going to do everything I can to be-rid them.

My 3 simple suggestions to myself and others who find themselves strapped to a desk all day:

1. Get up and MOVE!
Long periods (4hrs or more) of inactivity or laziness, not only packs on the pounds but can also disrupt the production of lipase (an enzyme that breaks down the fat molecules in your body) in your pancreas, no matter how healthy you eat.
You also increase your chances of blood clotsbedsores and hemorrhoids (to name a few).

Bottom line: No matter your exercise routine or eating habits, if most of your day is spent on your rear, you are significantly increasing your chances of internal problems later in life.

2. LEARN!
Your brain is an endless map.
Create new pathways as many times a day as you can.
There is an infinite amount of information available to you and absolutely no limit to how much of it you soak in.

3. BREATHE
I mean really BREATHE.
Focus on YOU for at least 5 minutes every day.
Close your eyes and take deeeeeep looooong breaths and push all that newly-oxygenated blood into the deepest parts of your body.
Having this fresh O2 in your blood helps to oxygenate your muscles, increase energy metabolism and deliver nutrients to your body.

Now I'm going to get off of this couch and move away from this computer so I don't feel like such a hypocrite...
